Gremlins

Came across this story today: Gremlins Thought Extinct, Found After 85 YearsHere's part of the article:Since pygmy tarsiers can turn their heads 180 degrees, this process [placing a radio collar on their neck for tracking] can be dangerous, as Gursky-Doyen found out."I have the dubious honor of being the only person in the world to have been bitten by [a pygmy tarsier]," Gursky-Doyen told LiveScience. "My field assistant was holding the tarsier and I was attaching a radio collar around its neck and while I was attaching the radio collar he bit me [on the finger]."The female has since been eaten by a hawk, Gursky-Doyen said.-- -------------------- --My immediate thought when I read this: Was it the gremlin or the field assistant that was eaten by the hawk?

My take

Now that I've had a little more time to think, I feel better about writing about the election. I was genuinely ticked off at the American people last night. So I needed to step back and wait. Hopefully the 24-hour delay is enough.-- -------------------- --About 75 days from now, Barack Obama will be inaugurated as the next President of the United States. (Unless of course some good evidence comes forth before then that verifies the rumors that he does not have the proper citizenship status to be President. But I don't expect that.)As much as I hate to use the ridiculously overused phrase, this was a historic election. The United States elected a (half) black man to the highest office in the land. Even though I believe many of Obama's policies are foolish and dangerous, it is at least good to see that an American of any racial background can ascend to this office. Some have suggested that Obama's election indicates that the racial problem in this country is a thing of the past.
Barry

Like it or not, one thing is sure - change is coming.Scanning through the recent entries page, it's amazing to me how many people on pleonast are talking about the election and what could be in store. I've got my own long list of things to say, but I figure I should sleep on it first so I don't end up saying something I probably shouldn't. So maybe in the next day or two I'll write more about it.Let's just hope the next four years are not as bad as I expect.-- -------------------- --On another note, something I forgot to mention in my last post, I updated Plain Bible Teaching for November. Hopefully that provides more encouragement than the current events.

This is where I work

It's not a bad job. But any job you have where you have customers to deal with, there are days that are more frustrating than others. These days make you wish you were doing something else. No matter how much you like your job, you have days like that once in a while. On these days, we joke that we're going to quit making signs and make donuts instead. So on Friday, since it was Halloween, we wore these shirts to work:We surprised our boss. He didn't know about it until he came in and saw 6 out of 8 of his employees wearing Signature Donuts shirts. Plus, his son who comes in to work after his classes and his daughter who gets dropped off at the shop after school were wearing these shirts too. Fortunately, he didn't seem too annoyed. He may have even thought it was a little funny, I don't know. But I'm sure he didn't think it was as funny as we did.

Spread the Wealth Around

Barack Obama is a socialist. That may or may not be a bad thing to you, depending on your political views. (I believe it's a bad thing.) But regardless of your opinion about it, the statement above is a fact - Barack Obama is a socialist. This has long been suspected by his opponents and downplayed by his supporters. But recently it has come out. It began with Obama's own words in a conversation with now famous "Joe the Plumber."In case you missed the story, Obama told this prospective small business owner that his plan will tax Joe's company (a small business, not a large corporation) more to give the money to those "behind" him. He said he wants to "spread the wealth around." This was not a misstatement on Obama's part. It revealed his true intention and economic philosophy. Then today I noticed a story about Obama's socialist/Marxist leanings dating back at least to his time in college. In one of his books, he said he "chose [his] friends care...

9 Minute Dreams

The 9 minutes in between hitting the snooze button and the alarm clock going off again. You fall back asleep, not a deep sleep, but asleep. Enough to have dreams. The dreams don't last long, but they're often easier to remember. I have these dreams everyday. In a lot of these dreams I'm getting ready for work, reading, or figuring things out. Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it doesn't.Yesterday morning I had one of these dreams where I was figuring out some fabricated problem...The problem had to do with the authorship of the book of Hebrews. The New Testament was written by 8 or 9 men, depending on whether Paul wrote Hebrews or not.In the dream, I was trying to harmonize two pieces of information. This had been something that had puzzled brethren and Biblical scholars. First, the internal and external evidence pointed to someone other than Paul being the author of Hebrews. Second, one of the NT writers mentions the siqtet (I know this looks like it would be for 6, if anythin...

Robin Hood

I just watched the last presidential debate. I wasn't able to watch it on TV last night due to church services, eating, and getting the kids to sleep. But thanks to YouTube, I was able to watch/listen to it tonight while I was at my computer.I usually refrain from talking politics on my blog. But this has been on my mind lately, even before watching this debate.I really don't understand why so many people seem to believe that the Democrat party's message is stronger on economic issues. Their big idea is that we need to raise taxes on the rich and big corporations in order to have the money to help out the poor and middle class. I'm no economist, but this reasoning seems flawed to me.What happens when you tax the rich? They have less money to spend. That means there's less money being pumped into the economy. What happens when you tax big corporations? Don't think they'll just accept less profits. That will not happen. So to pay the higher taxes, they'll have to cut costs (jobs) ...

Short-sighted?

All over the news, there's talk about the world-wide financial crisis. So far, the only effect I have felt from it is lower gas prices. They're almost down to $3 a gallon and may drop below that mark soon. Kind of makes me wish the global market meltdown happened a few months ago.

What day is it?

Last night I made one of my semi-regular late-night trips to Walmart. My main objective was to get some weed & feed type fertilizer for the yard while it is still fall.We have four seasons. With our 12 month calendar, each season naturally lasts approximately 3 months. Since fall technically started about 14 days ago, I figured I'd have no problem getting what I needed. After all, I had just seen this particular item a couple weeks before at this same store. So last night I go to Walmart and head straight to the lawn & garden section. When I get there I noticed that the entire section had been cleaned out and they had started moving in new inventory. What were they moving in, you ask? Christmas decorations. On October 6th. Three and a half weeks before Halloween. And forget Thanksgiving. That holiday doesn't exist anymore. Can I please not have to see Christmas stuff in stores until the day after Thanksgiving? Is that too much to ask?I don't hate Christmas. Really. I jus...
