Tonight I built a workbench from the leftover mdf board and some 2x4's. Here are a couple more pictures...

The walls in the garage are no longer periwinkle or any other such color. They are now gray, as they should be.
I finished painting the walls yesterday afternoon. Then today, my brother and I commemorated Labor Day by spending a good part of the day building a work table.
The table was a bit of a challenge just in figuring out the best way to put it together. I wanted a 4'x8' table. But I also wanted to make it as compact as possible since I have a limited amount of room in the garage. So my idea was to have a leaf in the table that would fold down, leaving a 2.5' x 8' tabletop. That was the concept and Nate helped figure out how to make it happen. It turned out well. I'm happy with it.
Here are some pictures of the paint and table...

I also updated Plain Bible Teaching for the month of September.
In particular, I invite you to read the article on civil government, considering that we're heading towards another election in this country. We all have our opinions about politics, but I thought it'd be good to consider what the New Testament says about what God expects of civil government. |

One night last week I started painting the other half of the garage. I noticed immediately that the color didn't look right, but kept painting. I figured it might look better after it dried. So I rolled on the first coat and went to bed. Got up the next morning, the color was no better.
But maybe it was just my eyes. So I figured I'd ask Rachel to see what she thought. We were leaving out the garage that next evening. I didn't say anything about the color being wrong or what it was supposed to be. I just asked her what color she thought the wall was.
Lavender.
That was the first thing she said. My eyes don't quite see colors like hers apparently. I thought it was light blue. Later she said periwinkle.
It was supposed to be gray.
I do not want light blue, periwinkle, lavender, whatever on the walls in my garage. I just want gray.
So that project was on hold.
I finally got to go back to Lowe's at lunch today. I came with the paint sample card from the store with the actual paint color on it so they could see the difference. They were good. They fixed it, remixed the remaining paint, so now I can start painting again and cover up the blue/periwinkle/lavender walls.
Hopefully I'll have the painting done by the end of the week. |

Breaking news...
Obama Announces Running Mate
In a press conference late Friday night, Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama introduced the Dalai Lama as his running mate in the upcoming presidential election.
The Dalai Lama, who resides in Tibet, is expected to balance the ticket with his experience in foreign relations, a perceived weakness in Obama. It is also being reported that he will be Obama's new spiritual advisor, after the fallout with Obama's former preacher, Jeremiah Wright.
Obama was questioned about his choice soon after the announcement about whether the Dalai Lama could serve as Vice President since he is not a citizen of the United States. Obama responded that he himself was a "citizen of the world" and believed this choice would be a good way to reach out to the rest of the world.
Early Friday morning, news leaked out that a printing company in Kansas had begun printing Obama/Lama bumper stickers. The company would not confirm or deny that these were ordered by the Obama campaign.
With other potentially strong candidates being rumored for this pick, questions arose as to why the Dalai Lama was picked.
A political advisor with the Obama campaign said that their polling data indicated that the American people were less interested in the issues surrounding the potential Vice President than they were with the ease of remembering who was at the bottom of the ticket. This posed a problem for relatively little-known candidates like Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana or Governor Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas.
The Dalai Lama seemed a natural choice. Not only was he a familiar name, but his name rhymed with Obama's.
A number of Hillary Clinton supporters who had yet to back Obama, said this choice was enough for them to throw their whole-hearted support to Obama. One of the former first lady's supporters said, "We thought Obama/Clinton would be a dream ticket. But Obama/Lama has such a ring to it."
Political commentators later began to speculate as to how Obama's choice would affect the choice of a running mate for John McCain, the Republican nominee. Rumored front-runners Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty could not bring to the ticket what the Dalai Lama could for Obama.
John McCain and his advisors met behind closed doors to discuss the appropriate response to Obama's announcement. Early reports out of the McCain camp suggest that the Arizona Senator is now working on his concession speech. |

Rachel and the kids made it back safely on Saturday. So how did I do with my list of projects for the end of the week/weekend?
- Paint office = Done. Even did the trim, which I wasn't originally planning on doing.
- Fix ramp to shed (with his help) = Done. The riding mower is out of the garage and in the shed where it now belongs.
- Buy small storage shed for kids' outdoor toys = Done. Not put together yet, but that was going to be a project for this week anyway.
- Friend's website = Done with all I can do until she gets me some more of the content.
- Write 3 articles = Got 2 out of 3. The third is outlined, just not written yet.
- Write 2 sermons = Done. Preached them yesterday.
- Mow grass = Done.
- Spray weeds = Not done. This got pushed back for this week.
- Play my guitar = Well, I played for about 5 minutes one day.
So, I got most of the things done that I planned. I guess the original list was a little ambitious, considering I still had to be at my 8-5 job during the day.

I updated my garage remodel gallery to reflect the recent progress. So you can check that out if you're interested.
